Distinguished and Famous people from Warnervale
🏡 Albert Hamlyn Warner
Albert Hamlyn Warner acquired extensive land around Wyong and offered subdivisions through the Warner Estate, including the township that took his name as Warnervale. His developments included shops near Wyong station and the residence Hakone on the river. Japanese travels influenced the name of that house and a local road. The council's photographic record dates Hakone's construction to 1912–13 and his residence there to 1914–20. Land sales, buildings and place names leave tangible traces of a developer whose plans helped shape this part of the Central Coast before its later suburban expansion.
🎬 Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey spent a year at Warnervale as a Rotary exchange student in 1988, before the acting career that made him internationally known. The stay gave a young visitor from Texas a sustained experience of Australian daily life rather than a brief holiday itinerary. A Rotary account recalls his later description of the exchange as a formative experience. Warnervale's connection is that period of residence during his youth. It is an unexpectedly local chapter in a career later associated with Hollywood, and a reminder that exchange programmes sometimes bring future public figures into ordinary households and neighbourhoods.
